Congratulations and welcome to life! The change you experienced tonight when you accepted Jesus’ invitation to a relationship with Him is so radical that the Bible describes it as going from darkness to light, from death to life. Luke 15:10 says that the angels party in heaven every time a sinner repents! If the angels are rejoicing, there’s certainly a reason for us to celebrate as well! Speaking of rejoicing, make sure to remember this date – the date that you found life in Jesus Christ – it’s your spiritual birthday! You get all excited every year about your physical birthday, but this birthday is far better! Let me give you a couple quick things to think about as you start this new journey with Christ…

Jesus said in John 16:33 “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.” He wanted his followers (which you are now) to know that following Him wasn’t going to mean a problem-free life. In fact, following Jesus sometimes creates struggles that we didn’t have before. Ephesians 6 talks about the spiritual battle we’re up against. 1 Peter 5:8 says that Satan is out to make a spiritual snack out each of us and he’ll do it any way he can – discouragement, old sins, reminding you of your past, anger, lust, greed, and the list goes on… Never forget 1 John 4:4 – “…He who is in you (God) is greater than he who is in the world (Satan).” In other words, be on guard, get ready for hard times, but remember that God is bigger and better and He will empower you to overcome anything the enemy throws at you.

The encounter you had with Jesus tonight was intensely personal, but it is not private. When you came into relationship with Jesus you also came into relationship with others who know Jesus. That’s what the Church is – it’s a group of people who do this Jesus-following life together. The whole idea of the Church was designed by Jesus to be the community where we receive Spiritual nourishment, Godly fellowship, and encouragement. Every believer needs to be connected with other believers and that happens in the Church. Each member of the body of Christ needs each other – you need us and we need you. So, do yourself and us a favor and get plugged in! In this packet there is a list of local churches that would love to welcome you. Visit one that’s close to where you live and let them know you accepted Jesus at The Uprising. They’ll be ready and waiting to help you get started in this new life.

God gave us the incredible tool of prayer to keep us in tune with Him. Prayer is quite simply communication with God. It’s one of the ways we get to know Him better. Think about it – you got to know your best friends by talking with them. It’s the same with God and you can talk to Him about anything and everything.

Another way to stay in communication with God is the Bible. The Bible is far more than a history book – it is God’s words, and because of that, it’s vitally important to be reading! It tells us everything we need to know about God and everything we need to know about the kind of life He wants us to live. One cool thing about the Bible is that as we read it, it has a way of reading us. God will use the Bible to speak truth to you, reveal new things to you, encourage you and help you know Him better. We’re so excited for you and this new life that God has given you!

Here’s one last thing to remember:

DON’T KEEP IT QUIET! Tell everyone about how God pursued you and how you responded by accepting His forgiveness and invitation to real life. You probably have some friends that He is pursuing as well, so tell them about what happened to you. Share the good news!
